Breathe Deep with the Full Moon in Cancer

Winter Solstice: Take a Breather

This Friday, December 21st, is the winter solstice and the official first day of winter.  This is the day when the sun moves into the sign of Capricorn, and it is also the shortest day and longest night of the year. The sun is at it’s lowest point on this day, and this happens because Earth’s north pole is tilting at it’s furthest distance from the Sun. Hope, accepting darkness, and having faith the darkness will end are all spiritual themes of this annual event.  Just like bears hibernating during the winter months, this is a time for you to draw inward and to practice stillness and patience. Lighting a candle is a good way to honor the winter solstice; this simple ritual is a celebration of light in the darkest hour.

Full Moon in Cancer: Tend Your Inner Garden

The Moon will be full this Saturday, December 22nd, at 11:49 a.m.  Full moons illuminate what’s been hidden and can bring situations to completion. Cancer is a sensitive water sign that swims around in the deep waters of emotion and tends to withdraw when the outside world becomes too chaotic and loud. During this full moon, you will crave some peace and quiet from all the commotion. Just like the winter solstice is a time for stillness, the full moon in Cancer is also a time to rest and recoup. Take a look at your to-do list and see what tasks you can take off.

Because Cancer is such a feeling sign, emotions and moods will take center stage now. Once you slow down, you may be surprised by some of the feelings you become aware of. During all the hustle and bustle and busyness of the holiday season, you may have suppressed some things. Maybe you’ve been in denial about a situation in your life and pushed your feelings to the side because they were just too inconvenient and uncomfortable? But a Cancer full moon won’t let you off the hook. Whatever emotions you’ve been sidelining will demand your attention now.

Two of Cups is the tarot card linked with this full moon, and love is the keyword associated with this card. This card represents a relationship that is nurturing, reciprocal, and fulfilling. It means we have the potential to close the year with an experience of emotional fulfillment, recognizing our capacity to give and receive love. In relationships, this card signifies a deeper commitment to an established relationship—like an engagement, a wedding, or maybe moving in together. So you may find yourself taking things to the next level over the holidays. And if you’re single, then this is a fertile time for a new romance with a deep and passionate connection to begin.

Chiron Square the Sun and Full Moon: Let Your Light Shine

Astronomers don’t quite know what to do with Chiron. At first they called it an asteroid, then it became a planetoid, and now there is some speculation it could be a comet.  Regardless of what astronomers want to do with Chiron, astrologers see this cosmic body as the Wounded Healer. Whenever Chiron is involved in an aspect to the sun and moon, like it will be this Saturday, issues around worthiness and self-esteem come to the surface. Chiron aspects to the sun and moon reveal the wounds from childhood that prevent us from showing up and starring in our own life. It’s time to take center stage and share your talents with the world instead of always stepping back and helping others shine.
