Energetic boundaries is a term that gets thrown around a lot, but leaves many scratching their heads. How do we set boundaries on what we can’t see with our eyes?
In her book, Energetic Boundaries: How to Stay Protected and Connected in Work, Love and Life, author Cyndi Dale describes four sets of boundaries—physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual. She likens our boundaries to our skin, the border for our physical being. Just as with our skin, each of our other aspects has its own energy border. Knowing where these boundaries lie and how to work with them is important to maintaining our well being.
Each of us is engaged in an energy exchange. No matter where we are or what we’re doing, we’re experiencing a give and take of energy with the world around us. But we needn’t feel vulnerable or victim to the energies around us. We can choose what to let in and what to let out. This is the practice of working with your energetic boundaries.
In our upcoming class, Energetic Boundaries 101: Simple Methods to Increase Energetic Protection, teacher Kristina Woods will go over practical tools and tips to increase your sense of energetic protection, as well as signs and symptoms of keeping weak boundaries. This kind of training is critical to understanding how you are impacted by the people and world around you, and it is a veritable survival guide for empaths and those who work in roles of service.

In addition, you may find certain tools can be very helpful as you learn to work with and shore up your energetic boundaries. Some of our top recommendations are:
Sage – Smudging is an ancient practice that clears energy and restores a neutral state. Smudging can be very beneficial whenever it feels our boundaries have been bombarded. Burn sage to clear your energy field and reconnect with your boundaries.
Crystals – Many crystals have been known and treasured for their protective qualities for centuries. Keeping a crystal or two on you at all times or in places of particular stress can be very helpful to reinforce your energetic boundaries. A few of our favorites are garnet, labradorite, tiger eye, black tourmaline, and onyx.
Sound Bowls – Sound is a wonderful clearer of energy. Not only will ringing a sound bowl clear your energy field, but it also works to calm the mind and move into a more centered and meditative state. Everyone should have at least a small sound bowl for just this purpose. The more centered we are, the less likely to be affected by the energy coming at us.
Self Care – There is nothing that beats good, old-fashioned self-love when it comes to energetic boundaries. Meeting our unique needs and nurturing ourselves, body, mind, and soul, is one of the surest ways to be in touch with where our boundaries lie and what they need to stay strong. Whatever makes you feel safe and loved is your best tool for this.
